빅터 노이만 Viktor Neumann, 〈You Are Another Me〉

빅터 노이만Viktor Neumann은 2022년 제 59회 베니스 비엔날레 루마니아관 공동 큐레이터로서의 작업과, 작가 겸 영화 제작자 아디나 핀틸리에Adina Pintilie의 다중 채널 비디오 설치 너는 또 다른 나-신체의 성전You Are Another Me—A Cathedral of the Body에 대해 이야기한다. 이 작품은 정치와 친밀성의 시학 그리고 신체에 대하여 핀틸리에가 지난 십년간 진행해온 조사의 최신 단계를 보여준다. 복합적인 예술 언어를 거쳐 발전된 이 작업은 경계선과 이분법을 넘어선 유대감을 아우른다. 젠더, 성, 신체 능력과 신체 다양성의 규범을 재평가하는 지금의 대화들에 기여하는 동시에 핀틸리에 만의 뚜렷한 시각은 특정한 시각적 세계, 미학 그리고 신뢰 구축 수법을 통하여, 더불어 영상의 역할과 힘을 재고해봄으로써 전달된다. 핀틸리에의 예술적인 과정은 자신의 경험과 연구에서 태어나서 작업 속 주인공들과의 장기간 협업과 연대를 통해 양성되었다. 이 작업은 일상 속에서 친밀성의 핵심 역할을 탐구하고, 방문자들을 위한 자기 성찰과정의 장이 열리길 바란다. 이 프로젝트는 마야식 인사법인 너는 또 다른 나You Are Another Me의 정신에 입각하여 사적, 정치적 생명들의 중심에 우리 자신의 몸과 타인의 몸을 연결하는 다리를 놓는다.

빅터 노이만은 베를린 기반의 큐레이터이자 미술사가다. 현재 노이만은 베를린의 전시 공간 비트윈 브릿지스(Between Bridges)의 큐레이터이며, 제 59회 베니스 비엔날레 루마니아관에 코스민 코스티나스(Cosmin Costinaş)와 함께 공동 큐레이터로 참여했다. 또한 아헨 루드비히 포럼(Ludwig Forum for International Art)과 쾰른 쿤스트페어라인에서 있었던 리부트(reboot)프로젝트를, 에바 버킨스탁(Eva Birkenstock), 니콜라 디트리히(Nikola Dietrich)와 공동 기획했다. 뉴욕 휘트니미술관, 바르샤바 현대미술관, 서울 토탈미술관, 예카테린부르크 국립현대미술관(NCCA), 슈트트가르트의 뷔템베르기셔 쿤스트페어라인(Württembergischer Kunstverein)과 뒤셀도르프 라인란트 베스트팔렌 쿤스트페어라인(Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen)과 같은 곳에서 전시와 프로젝트를 기획했다. 초국적 프로젝트 신체의 의회(Parliament of Bodies), 2019년 베르겐 어셈블리(Bergen Assembly)의 공동 큐레이터였으며, 제 14회 카셀 도큐멘타와 젊은 예술가를 위한 제 3회 모스크바 국제 비엔날레의 어시스턴트 큐레이터로 참가했다. 국제적인 출판과 강의를 이어왔으며 최근에는 칼스루에 조형예술대학교에서 큐레토리얼 과목 객원교수로 재직했다.

Viktor Neumann Viktor, 〈You Are Another Me〉

Neumann speaks on his work as co-curator of Romanian Pavilion at the 59th International Venice Biennale 2022 and the multi-channel installation You Are Another Me—A Cathedral of the Bodyby artist and filmmaker Adina Pintilie. It marks the latest stage of her decade-spanning research on the politics and poetics of intimacy and the body, developed through multiple artistic languages and embracing togetherness beyond borders and binaries. While contributing to the current conversations reassessing the normative in gender, sexuality, bodily ability and diversity, Pintilie’s distinctive perspective is conveyed through a particular visual universe, aesthetics, and a trust-building methodology, as well as a rethinking of the role and power of the moving image. Her artistic process emerges from her personal experiences and research, and is nurtured by long-term collaboration and bonds with her protagonists. It explores the central role of intimacy in the everyday and desires to open a site of self-reflexive processes for the visitors. In the spirit of the Mayan greeting You Are Another Me, the project places connection to our own body and the bodies of others at the center of our personal and political lives.

Viktor Neumann

Viktor Neumann is a Berlin-based curator and art historian. Currently, he is curator of the exhibition space Between Bridges in Berlin, together with Cosmin Costinaş co-curator of the Romanian Pavilion of the 59th Venice Biennale, and, together with Eva Birkenstock and Nikola Dietrich, co-curator of the project reboot: at Ludwig Forum for International Art, Aachen and Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne. He has curated exhibitions and projects for institutions such as Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw, Bildmuseet Umeå, Total Museum, Seoul, NCCA Yekaterinburg, Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart and Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf. He was co-curator of the transnational project Parliament of Bodies, co-curator of Bergen Assembly 2019, Curatorial Assistant for documenta 14 and Assistant Curator for the 3rd Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. He has been publishing and teaching internationally, most recently as Guest Professor for Curatorial Studies at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
