방정아는 부산을 기반으로 활동하며 회화 작품을 통해 ‘지금, 여기’를 지속적으로 이야기해 왔다. 작가는 자신을 둘러싼 일상적이고 친숙한 동시대 풍경을 화폭에 옮기며 우리가 살아가는 장소 이면에 존재하는 이야기를 전달한다. 이번 전시에서는 화려한 색채와 더불어 소소한 일상, 사회적 메세지를 담고 있는 작업의 특징을 잘 나타내는 회화 작업과 다양한 드로잉 작품을 소개한다. ‘오동춘’이라는 인물을 통해 구축되고 또 다시 붕괴되는 사회의 모습을 유희적으로 풀어낸 회화 작업과 함께 진열된 드로잉들은 일상에서 마주치는 여성의 다양한 모습을 포착하고 있다. 방정아는 줄곧 왜곡된 사회에 대해 탄식하면서도 매일매일을 씩씩하게 살아가는 여성들과, 그들의 노동 현장에 주목해 왔다. 방정아는 현실과 허구, 개인과 사회를 유연하게 가로지르며 다양한 군상의 사람들을 호명한다.

Busan-based artist Bang Jeong A speaks about the ‘here and now’ through her paintings. The painter transfers daily and familiar contemporary landscapes onto canvases and portray stories that are relevant to these places. Included in this exhibition are paintings and a wide range of drawings that represent Bang’s characteristic use of color, attention to daily life and social values. The painting, Oh Dong-chun of Gentrified Area, playfully depicts the cyclical construction and demolition of urban landscapes through the figure of Oh, while the drawings displayed alongside portray various aspects of women laborers one might encounter in everyday life. Bang Jeong A has always paid attention to women and their courage, as well as their sites of labor. Bang swiftly traverses reality and fiction, individual and society, while focusing attention on various groups of people that make up the society.
